About TCN
Texas Climate News is an online magazine about climate change and sustainability. We are dedicated to producing public-interest journalism, based on traditional principles of independent-mindedness, accuracy and fairness. In addition to our own original reporting and analysis, we offer a regularly updated guide to reports by others.
TCN is published by the Houston Advanced Research Center as a project of its Texas Climate Initiative. HARC is a not-for-profit organization, based in The Woodlands, Texas, which is “dedicated to improving human and ecosystem well-being through the application of sustainability science and principles of sustainable development."
The editor of TCN is Bill Dawson, a Houston-based journalist and writer who also teaches at Rice University. He was the Houston Chronicle's environment writer from 1984 to 2001. From 2001-03, he was senior writer for environmental issues at the Center for Public Integrity, a Washington-based nonprofit organization dedicated to investigative reporting in the public interest.
Support for Texas Climate News is provided by funding from HARC and three Houston-based foundations:
- Houston Endowment, “a private philanthropic foundation that improves life for the people of the greater Houston area through its contributions to charitable organizations and educational institutions.”
- The Brown Foundation, whose mission "is to distribute funds for public charitable purposes, principally for support, encouragement and assistance to education, the arts and community service."
- The Powell Foundation, whose mission "is to distribute funds for public charitable purposes, principally for the support, encouragement and assistance to education, health, conservation, and the arts with a direct impact within the Foundation’s geographic zone of interest; i.e., Harris, Travis, & Walker Counties, Texas."
